Choosing and layering a snare
- Pick the snare by its body first (around 180–250 Hz), then fix the top with EQ. It is much easier to brighten a full snare than to add body to a thin one.
- Layer a clap on the snare only if it adds something the snare lacks, usually width or a longer tail. Offset the clap by a few milliseconds so the two transients do not cancel.
- Tune the snare to the track; the body note shows on a spectrum analyser like a kick's fundamental does.
- Use a short room reverb on the snare, not a hall. Gate or duck the tail so it ends before the next kick.
Can I use these in a release?
Yes. Every sound here comes from a recording released under CC0 1.0 (public domain). Use it in commercial tracks, beats and videos, with no royalties and no credit required. The one thing you can't do is resell the sounds themselves as a sample pack. SOURCES.txt in the ZIP lists the original recording for each file. More on licensing.
