Getting the phonk sound out of clean drums
- Phonk sits around 130–145 BPM (drift phonk) or 65–75 BPM felt in half time (Memphis style).
- Saturate the whole drum bus, not each sound. Tape or soft-clip saturation glues kick and bass into one distorted low end.
- Write a cowbell melody in the track's key. The percussion hit here can play that role when you pitch it across a few notes.
- Roll off the very top (above 12–14 kHz) for the dusty Memphis cassette feel. Drift phonk keeps it brighter.

Can I use these in a release?
Yes. Every sound here comes from a recording released under CC0 1.0 (public domain). Use it in commercial tracks, beats and videos, with no royalties and no credit required. The one thing you can't do is resell the sounds themselves as a sample pack. SOURCES.txt in the ZIP lists the original recording for each file. More on licensing.
