Free lo-fi drum samples

A kick, a snare, a hi-hat and a clap from Boom Bap & Lo-Fi Hip-Hop. CC0, dusty enough for lo-fi and punchy enough for boom bap.

What's in the ZIP

Previews are 128 kbps MP3. The download is the original WAV, plus LICENSE.txt and SOURCES.txt.

Making drums feel lo-fi

  1. Work at 70–90 BPM and turn quantize off, or swing the hats to 55–62%. The loose feel matters more than the sounds.
  2. Bring the snare slightly late (5–15 ms) to get the lazy, behind-the-beat groove.
  3. Low-pass the drum bus somewhere between 8 and 12 kHz and add light tape saturation. Avoid bitcrushing the kick; it loses its weight first.
  4. Keep the kick and snare loud and the hats quiet. Lo-fi drums are about the kick-snare conversation.

Can I use these in a release?

Yes. Every sound here comes from a recording released under CC0 1.0 (public domain). Use it in commercial tracks, beats and videos, with no royalties and no credit required. The one thing you can't do is resell the sounds themselves as a sample pack. SOURCES.txt in the ZIP lists the original recording for each file. More on licensing.
